Spring season is coming to an end, and with it several series end too. But now, there’s a new batch of new series, originated from manga, games and light novels!
Plus, there is a new long series that might eventually clash with the three other big audience series (yeah, those with over a hundred episodes, filled with these unneeded sub-character development).
As usual, I’ll only talk about the titles that caught my eye. I just hope half of them will be worth the watch.
Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi
When you mix several old traditional stories altogether, like say, the Wolf and the Red hood, you end up with this incredible story about Ookami Ryouko, a girl with wolvish looks, and Akai Ringo, a double faced girl, who struggle to change the world.
It’s your average love comedy series, but this series seems particularly aimed at character development.
It is also produced by J.C. studios. Expect good laughs and stereotyped characters.
You also have Horie Yui as a secondary character. It seems she has been quite active these past months.
Mitsudomoe
Here you have the story of the three Marui sisters, Mitsuba, Futaba and Hitoha, little girls that are in class 6-3.
This title is from a comedy series featured in the Gekkan Shounen Champion.
Amagami SS
Listen ladies and gentlemen, we will be talking about romance. And as usual, high-school romance.
There, the hero, Tachibana Junichi, is a gentle boy, strayed because of his inexperience. He meets a certain individual, that is to say several individuals actually, who happen to be female. Please stop right there, you’re beginning to think that this show will end like the usual harem game adaptation. Not quite.
The characters seem pretty polished and I wouldn’t dare say they are somehow better than the ones in Kimikiss, but it is too soon to tell. The funny part is that Kimikiss was the game company’s first product.
Ahh. One boy, six girls. Any lucky guy’s dream. But if it tends to be realistic as I think it’ll be, the story will focus more about the character development.
Plus, there is Asumi Kana, the one who dubbed Yuno, one of my favorite cute characters. She’ll be dubbing the main character’s sister this time.
The director is rather new to this task and we only have seen him handling series like Mayoi Neko Overrun, Working!! and Solty Rei.
So I’d rather say that he has a tendency to keep the story somehow mainstream but with a mature touch.
Nurarihyon no Mago
So this is the next blockbuster that will raid the japanese TV stations this summer. It’s the story of a boy who lives in a house full of folkloric demons. It happens that Nura Rikuo posesses demonic blood as his grandfather is actually one of the most powerful demon leader. He wants Rikuo to become the next leader, but he prefers to remain a normal boy and lead a normal life. Events happen and he is forced to protect his heritage.
Despite the quite classic background that makes you instantly remember Inuyasha, the story development is quite impressive and it’s no wonder the manga aces the charts in Japan. The anime direction is left to Nishimura Junji, who has directed Ranma 1/2. I bet the comedy and story development will be awesome. Then you add Horie Yui, Hirano Aya, Fukuyama Jun (Lelouch Lamperouge, Takanashi Souta) and it’s a definitive winning team.
Oh, one last thing! The main studio in charge will be Studio Deen who made Seitokai no Ichizon, the Higurashi series, Simoun, Fate Stay/Night… Arg, I just can’t wait now!
